Asthma
The number of people suffering from asthma has increased in recent years. The increasing pollution is at least partially to blame.
Asthma is one of the most common lung problems in children, with about one out of ten children suffering at some point during childhood. Adults are less affected; nevertheless it can develop in later life.

In people with asthma, the airway is always sensitive and slightly swollen. In an asthma attack, the airways contract, tightening the tubes, and therefore narrowing the air pathway. The inner lining of the airways also becomes more inflamed, and often sticky mucous is produced .This makes it much more difficult to breathe.

Symptoms of asthma

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Tight sensation around the throat
  • An audible wheeze is often present and sometimes the coughing, especially in children suffering from asthma.

Outbreak of asthma

  • Asthma attacks can be associated with cold temperatures, with exercise, or might develop during the night.
  • Allergy to triggers like dust, pollutants such as smoke, and chemical irritants such as some household cleansers, can also cause the asthma attack.

So if you can identify the cause of your asthma, try as much as possible to avoid the trigger!

Treatment of asthma
The treatment is divided into so-called relievers and preventers. This depends on the stage of asthma, and on it strength.
The treatment of easy asthma cases requires only "relievers", a medicine that the sufferer uses when he/she experiences some difficulty breathing. In emergency cases, relievers are used to reduce inflammation as quickly as possible to help breathing return normal.
The severe asthma also requires, in addition to the relievers, a continuous treatment with preventers to reduce inflammation and prevent further attacks.
