Cardom 1 – 2 – 4 (TABLETS)

COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains 1.213, 2.43, or 4.86 mg doxazosin mesylate equivalent to 1, 2, or 4mg doxazosin base.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Cardom is selective blockade of a1 subtype of adrenergic receptors and the antihypertensive effect of Cardom results from a decrease in systemic vascular resistance. In patients with symptomatic BPH symptoms are improved by the use of Cardom. Because it has selective blockade of a1 receptors in prostatic muscular and bladder neck.

INDICATIONS:
Cardom is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Hypertension and may be used in combination with a thiazide diuretic, b-adrenoceptor blocking agent.
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Cardom may be administered either in the morning or in the evening.

  • In hypertension: Therapy should be initiated by 1mg tablet once daily. The daily dosage should then be increased after 1 – 2 weeks to 2mg once daily, and if necessary to 4mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose is 16mg once daily. The following dosage schedule is recommended for the treatment:

1st to 8th day 1mg once daily.
9th to 14th day 2mg once daily.

  • In benign prostatic hyperplasia: The same as above, the maximum recommended dose is 8mg once daily.
  • In renal insufficiency: The usual dosage is recommended.

SIDE EFFECTS:
The following may occur: Circulatory disorders with tendency for blood pressure fall when changing positions (for instance from lying to standing). Rarely associated with syncope, dizziness, headache, fatigue, vertigo, oedema, dry mouth, palpitation.
Non specific skin and gastrointestinal reactions.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to doxazosin or other quinazolines, hepatic disease, children, and heart failure.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Cardom potentiates potentiate the blood pressure lowering action of other antihypertensive drugs.

PRECAUTION:
The ability to drive may be impaired, so that patient should be avoid driving.

USE IN PREGNANCY or LACTATION:
It should not be used during pregnancy or lactation.

PRESENTATION:
Carton pack contains 2 blisters each of 10 tablets of 1, 2, or 4mg, with leaflet.
