Euphillin   (Tablets)
Bronchodilator and spasmolytic

Composition:
Each Euphillin tablet contains 175mg Aminophylline.

Properties:
Aminophylline is a synthetic derivative of theophylline. It has a particularly powerful relaxing effect on the bronchial smooth muscles when patients are intolerant or resistant to sympathomimetic drugs.

indications:
Euphillin is indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchial or cardiac asthma, status asthmaticus, asthmatic bronchitis, emphysema and related conditions as well as in non productive cough and tracheobronchial irritation.

Dosage:
One tablet twice daily (in the morning and in the evening). When necessary, the dose can be increased up to 2 tablets twice daily.
The dosage must be individually specified according to patient's state, respond especially in the long term treatment.

Contraindications:
Euphillin should be administered with caution to patients with peptic ulcer, hepatic and cardiac disease.

Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, headache, tremor or agitation, gastric irritation, palpitations and central nervous system stimulation are only frequent with high doses are administered.

Drug Interactions:
Ciprofloxacin reduce clearance, and a reduced dosage of theophylline may therefore be necessary to avoid side effects.
Toxic synergism with ephedrine has been documented and may occur with some other sympathomimetic bronchodilators. Administration of phenytoin, carbamazepine, rifampicin and barbiturates as well as smoking and alcohol consumption may increase clearance of Euphillin, therefore it may be necessary to increase dosage to ensure therapeutic results.  Administration of the following may reduce clearance: Thiabendazole, erythromycin, cimetidine, allopurinol, isoprenaline and oral contraceptive drugs, therefore a reduced dosage may be necessary to avoid side effects. The hypokalaemia resulting from B2-adrenergic stimulant, steroids and diuretics may be potentiated by Euphillin. It is recommended that serum potassium levels are monitored in such situations.

Use In Pregnancy And Lactation:
The product should only be used during pregnancy, if considered essential by physician. It crosses the placental barrier and is secreted in breast milk.
