Rhinol

COMPOSITION:

Each 5ml Syrup contains 100 or 250mg carbocisteine.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

Rhinol affects the synthetic of mucus, decreases the pathological viscosity, and increases its fluidity. Rhinol regulates the mucus in the affecting mucous membranes.

INDICATIONS:

Rhinol is indicated as a mucolytic, in most respiratory infections. It is used as an adjuvant treatment of chronic, acute affections of the bronchi, lung and the entire ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) area that accompanied with excessive or viscous mucus.

Dosage and Duration of Treatment:

  • Rhinol 100:

Children under 2 years: 20mg/kg daily, divided into several doses.

Children 2–5 years: One spoon (tea or table) 4 times daily.

(50–100mg 4 times daily).

  • Rhinol 250:

Children 6–12 years: 5 ml 3 times daily.

Adult: 10 ml 3 times daily.

The duration of treatment is recommended as following:

In acute infections: 8–10 days.

In recurrent chronic infections: 10 days – 3 weeks and treatment should be repeated several times per year.

SIDE EFFECTS:

When high doses are given, some digestive symptoms may occur such as: Gastralgia, nausea, and diarrhea. In such cases dosage should be reduced.

CONTRAINDICATION:

Hypersensitivity to carbocisteine, or gastrointestinal ulcer.

USE IN PREGNANCY OR LACTATION:

It’s not recommended during the first trimester, and in lactation the effect is not known.

ABSORPTION AND METABOLISM:

Rhinol is totally absorbed, and reach to the maximum plasma concentration after two hours. Rhinol is stayed in the lung for along time. Rhinol excretion reaches 100% during 24 hours as unchanged drug.
